New figures released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) ahead of World Diabetes Day (Nov 2021) reveal that 537 million adults around the world are living with diabetes.

• One in ten (10.5%) adults worldwide live with diabetes.

• The total number of people with diabetes is predicted to rise to 643 million (11.3%) by 2030 and 783 million (12.2%) by 2045.

• An estimated 44.7% of adults living with diabetes (240 million people) are undiagnosed.

• 6.7 million adults are estimated to have died due to diabetes or its complications in 2021 – 1 death every 5 seconds.

• South-East Asia: 90 million, the number of adults with diabetes is predicted to rise to 152 million by 2045, an increase of 68%.
